Short S.16 Scion II Floatplane G-AEZF
Following its display in Rochester Cathedral throughout August 2025, the aeroplane is currently being completed and painted in the workshop. An original main undercarriage has also been refurbished so the aeroplane can alternatively be displayed as a landplane. This aeroplane is owned by MAPSL.
We are currently looking for a permanent home for this aeroplane, ideally in the local area to maintain the links between Short Brothers and North Kent.
This engine was at the University of Delft. When the Germans annexed the Benelux countries early during WWII, it was sectioned as a training aid and therefore survived. Purchased by MAPSL in 2012, it has since been cleaned and motorised.
Unfortunately we do not have a complete engine but what we have has been cleaned and restored to a very high standard. Should anyone know of a Pobjoy engine or parts anywhere please contact MAPSL.
Work is continuing to restore this aeroplane which saw service with the Russian Air Force during WWII having been shipped there in one of the early convoys. The fuselage is in a very poor condition and the majority of the tubes have had to be replaced. Metalwork for the fin and rudder has been made retaining refurbished original where possible and work is currently underway to build the frame for the tailplane and elevators.

This is another ex-Russian Hurricane which is being restored for a private owner. Currently we only have the centre section in the workshop as a kit of parts which is gradually being built up.
Two R-R Merlin X Engines from AW Whitleys
MAPSL has received two Rolls Royce Merlin X engines coming from different AW Whitley Bomber aircraft. Both are in very poor condition. Engine 'A' was dredged out of the North Sea and has suffered severe corrosion, with the loss of most of the aluminium cylinder casing. Salvageable parts are being carefully removed by sacrificing those which are badly damaged. Engine 'B' was from aeroplane which crashed in the Scottish mountains; it is in a slightly better condition but it is without the supercharger and gearbox. Work has yet to start on this engine.
MAPSL is also restoring a rotating stand for Rolls Royce engines.
These two items have been restored for different clients. They were used to start the Merlin engines used on many WWII British aeroplanes and demonstrate how much variation there was in these items.
Restoration is almost complete.
MAPSL has recently received a number of wooden models which it is restoring. They include a Short 'C'-class flying boat and the Short 'Mayo', the lower half of the Short 'Maia' composite from which their 'Mercury' was launched to complete a trans-Atlantic mail run.
