Mayoral Visit 15th April 2026
The reorganised Visitors Centre was formally opened on Wednesday 15th April by His Worship, the Mayor of Medway, Councillor Trevor Clarke, who is also our local councillor. He was accompanied by his wife, the Lady Mayoress. After being greeted by the MAPS Chaps on a fine but chilly morning, he was welcomed by our Managing Director, Phil Cole, responding with a short address praising the work of Medway’s volunteers, including the MAPS Chaps.
He was invited to cut the ribbon, before being shown around the Visitors Centre and Shop where he unveiled a small plaque commemorating the occasion. That was followed by viewing the current projects in the MAPSL workshop – the Short Scion, the parts of the two Hawker Hurricanes, the two Trolley Accumulators and the large-scale models of the ‘Golden Hind’ and the ‘Mercury-Mayo’ composite – in which he showed a great interest. The visit finished with an extended chat over sandwiches, cakes and refreshments.
